Dragon Blade is an adventure which takes place in the ancient times, in this movie every person/people speaks in their language, except for the Romans. For the sake of the movie they learnt to spean in English properly.

We are in the first time period of the Han dynasty (48 BC). Jackie Chan plays a Hun commander who helps the Chinese to keep the peace of the Silk Road with his special squad. He tries to solve the conflicts between different kinds of people from many counties. He and his squad gets imprisoned because of a conspiracy. Although they are innocent they are sentenced to penal servitude. They meet a Roman legion. The two team forges an alliance. This makes everything more difficult. John Cusack and Adrien Brody play roman generals in the movie.

There were entertaining moments in the movie when the two teams (Jackie's and John Cusack's team) join forces to finish a wall around a building. Dragon Blade reminds me of Gladiator in theme, tone and the colors used. It was nice to see John Cusack and Jackie Chan work together for the first time. However I cannot say the same thing in case of Adrien Brody. Even a wooden stick is able to play a more authentic crazy Roman general than him. He is so stiff and looks like he is just in for the money.

It was nice to see Jackie Chan fight. He had more fight scenes than in Police Story 2013. In Bleeding Steel the editing and the choreography is much better. In Police Story 2013 these parts were too choppy and sometimes hard to follow thanks to the rapid fire editing.

I just want to know the answer to one question. Why was Dragon Blade presented as a true story? We get the usual "based on a true story" caption at the begining. The story was so naive that it should have been better as a fairy tale or fantasy. This movie is as true as 300 was. Although looks like research has done to make the costumes, weapons and buildings authentic to their time.

Dragon Blade was released in cinemas on 18th February 2015 and it is available on DVD from the summer. The American premiere was on 4th September.
