Spider-Man 3 (2007) review

So I realised that there is a Spider-Man 3: Editor's Cut. But the problem for me was never the editing. It's story was badly written. It is the basis of the movie. It reeks from the very core. It needed a solid rewrite before shooting. That could have helped. What do I hate?

Well the story around Uncle Ben's death was changed. Sandman shot Uncle Ben. They change basic stuff from the first movie in the third movie. You gotta be fucking kidding me. You can't retcon anything like that. It just ruins what the first movie established.

They wanted to push the drama of Sandman's sick daughter down my throat. So that was the motivation for Sandman to commit crime. It didn't work. They wanted to pull my heartstrings so bad but I didn't feel sympathy for them. It could have worked but it was badly written. They didn't even explain what the daughter's illness was. That could have been better but there wasn't enough time for that. The movie is so damn long and it feels like there's never enough time for anything.

They didn't let the characters breathe. They aren't well developed characters. I would have cut Sandman completely because the movie already had enough material. It was marketed as a the alien suit/Venom movie.

It had too many villains: Harry, Sandman, and Venom. Didn't they realise that's too much for one movie? That could have been enough material for THREE MOVIES. You just had to pick one subplot and develop it to make a whole movie about that.

- A Venom movie which could have been something as awesome as in the 90s cartoon Venom story. I wanted something like that. The 90s cartoon had the best Venom story adaptation because it builds up everything so great.

- A generic Sandman movie as Raimi intended which could have been great too. Raimi could have done it but the producers had a different plan.

- A Green Goblin movie like JM Dematteis' Spectacular Spider-Man run. That was build up from the first movie.  That could have been great too. But it needed a whole movie to get it right, develop the characters and conclude Harry's tragic story.

Another thing: Spider-Man forgives Sandman. Ok. "Fine with me." But Peter cannot let Sandman get away after the collateral damage he had caused. I am pretty sure people got hurt when he robbed the banks. Sandman should have gone to prison.

The editing cannot fix such major flawed bullshit like that. Removing the Uncle Ben stuff, and separate everything else into three movies. That could have helped. But it needed solid rewrites and reshootings.

Spider-Man 3 is a mess. Which could have been fixed before shootings began with thinking over stuff. But there were incompetent decisions. That makes it a bad movie and that's why I hate it with a passion.

Producers should only give the money. They don't know how a story works. They just have to let the director to do the job they hired him for.

Fuck Spider-Man 3.
